She tied her love for me into a knot
Twisting the rainbow sparkled thread
In impossibly complicated ways
She studied it there in her hand
With tilted head and wide brown eyes
And then she swallowed it whole
Struggling with the lump in her throat
Wondering if she’d ever breathe again
Survival instincts pushed it down
Until it landed there in the acid
